Now u might be thinking how can dowry related to this, let me tell that in ancient india or during barbaric medival times also, women had a fair share of property right on her father's property as well as she was eligible for Stridhan(personal property of women) for her economic independence and liberty.. Since acc to various dharamshastras in 8 type of marriage, only two involved price of bride sacrifice which was given by groom to bride's parents.
Since Colonizers on that time themselves didn't give theirs women property rights so they ban it on india too … Way back in 1793, Lord Cornwallis introduced a code that enabled private ownership of land. The same law prohibited women from owning property. This, many believe, was the origin of the woes of Indian women.
A scholar named Venna Talwar oldenburg in her book" Dowry murder:imperial origin of a cultural crime" she describes this things in detail..
We all know that Indian people were during imperial time were suffering from poverty and illiteracy, this new british code , private ownership and dowry soon catch local indian, and liberty and economic independence of our Indian women vanished..From that time till present millions of women suffer from this, which isn't a part of Indian culture!!! Today in era of feminism and communism Indian culture had to take pain of all these atrocities done against women, since people are reading history written by agenda driven leftist historians led to devalue of Bharatiya culture!! These cultural genocide can only be done if all women will be educated and independent, then these practices can be level down!!!
